Technology Divides.

I am here, not there. But, I know what each and every member of my family is doing over there.

All four brothers are online and I am chatting to one of them. 3 are upstairs in their rooms and the brother I am talking to is in the living room, being a spectator to a game of scrabble.

Who's playing scrabble? My parents. Yup, the 2 of them, engaged in a war of word making. By the way, they're halfway through their second game.

I would give anything to be there right now, though not in that game of scrabble, just watching it. Every morsel of flesh in me hates playing that game. Don't ask. I would rather be a sideline spectator, giving hints and spoiling the game Lol.

Technology divides. All of them should be in the living room, playing scrabble.

PS. I think my parents are cute.

Thanking Allah.

I am going to try and undo some damage that my previous posts have caused. F is saying that I have turned the girls against him.

After he explained the issue, I realised that I was actually at fault. He told me about what the Prophet had said and I admitted I was wrong. So all is good now.

I rush into things, typing without thinking, saying without reflecting and end up wanting to take back words I have spoken. I am going to try and slow myself down a little. This mouth needs to shut itself.

The other day, I was looking at my reflection and it reminded me of how someone had told me I was not at all pretty, because my eyes were small and my nose was not like hers. I was so upset back then that I forgot I can still see without my glasses, while she's as blind as a bat and what I lack in the nose department, I make up for it in the good complexion department (I kid). What I'm trying to say is, I want to stop letting myself be so easily affected by what others think of me. I want to stop feeling miserable when someone says I'm fat or short or asks me a stupid question like if I can still see when I laugh because my eyes scrunch up.

I want to be able to say Alhamdulillah because I have a head full of hair,a fully functional brain, 2 eyes, a nose, a mouth, fat cheeks, 2 hands, 10 fingers, 2 legs, 10 toes. In other words, I'm complete. I go through life without stopping and saying Alhamdulillah for the things that I have. I forget that all these things can disappear in an instant. I forget that I am probably better off than 75% of the population.

I am going to keep my hair in a hijab, use my brain well and not abuse the IQ that I have, see only halal things, cover my nose at the smell of a man's cologne, speak only of good things, lose the fats in the cheeks, use my hands to carry out meaningful tasks and walk in the path towards Jannah.

If you're reading this, stop and say Alhamdulillah NOW. (:

Reminding you, just in case you forget. I hope Baba Ali didnt copyright that.

He's disgusted with my past. He asked, I answered. Now I feel disgusted with myself too. I don't know where it was that I went wrong but how is it that when someone is disappointed with you, you feel disappointed with yourself?
People change. You should not judge new my by looking at old me.

If you can't get over it, you're not a real friend I guess. Or at least, that is what I am trying to convince myself to believe in.

Truly, it hurts when someone actually says that they are disgusted with you.

Hmm I guess only Allah (swt) will ever know how I am feeling right now.

Reverts

My brother and I have both (in these recent months) been in close contact with new reverts.

I don't have much to say about the revert that I am trying to help because it's a little complicated at the moment and I'll just let things progress slowly. But let me tell you about my brother's friend.

He was a sikh and so are his parents. He converted to christianity but it still didnt feel right. Finally, he found Islam, through 2 very good friends. Only 20, he has had to hide his conversion (both times) from his family.

Already, they are getting suspicious because he has stopped drinking alcohol and eating pork. He is looking at places where he can get his tattoo removed at a cheap price. My brother has found a mosque that actually provides subsidies for this very cause so InshaAllah, he will get to have that tattoo removed.

Every day at work, he will follow my brother home and pray during the lunch break. He does not want anyone to know of his conversion. Even my brother found out by chance ...he happened to see this boy praying at a masjid.

This boy is disgusted with the way the other muslim boys at work act, especially the fact that they don't pray. He also said that the boys are guilty of using religion to gain sympathy..ie. During Ramadhan they ask for less work load. On Fridays, they ask to be let off early for Jummah, but nope, theyre not really going for Jummah.

I can't imagine what it must be like for him. Only 20 and keeping his conversion to Islam a secret from everyone. I can't imagine what it must be like for ANY revert.

Make du'a for this new brother. He's a nice boy and let's hope that when he tells his parents, they will accept him with open minds, loving hearts and embracing arms.

Right now, what I'd like to be the most is...

someone else.

Hypothetically speaking of course.

So there's this guy and this girl. The girl really likes the guy and the guy really likes the girl (or at least, that's what the girl thinks).
The girl is really mad at the guy because he leaves whenever he wants to. The girl understands that the guy has other things to do but it seems like the guy has never heard of 'advanced notice'. The guy says he has to go and POOF, he's gone. So the girl's like left there, feeling utterly miserable.
Reverse the situation. When the girl wants to go, the guy says things like 'No, you're staying with me today' and the girl, being female and therefore has a heart as soft as a sponge, falls for this sweet talk and stays...just to be ditched by the guy a few hours later with his disappearing act.
The girl is dumb and the guy has her wrapped around his pinky.
This is just ONE of the few things that makes the girl really mad. I have told this girl many times to just leave but somehow, she can't. The girl is totally in love with this guy. We don't even know what the guy feels.
The girl's an open book.
The guy's a treasure chest, locked and buried.

Babe: Pig in the City

Yesterday, I read Google News and I read the words 'SWINE FLU'.

I don't know about you but everytime I see the word 'FLU', I imagine lots of sneezing, runny noses and yucky snot. So, when I heard about the Avian flu a couple of years back, it was a little hard to imagine those cute little birds sneezing.

But with pigs, its a little easier to imagine them like that, what with a snout and everything :D

Ok back to being serious...

What is the swine influenza?
The swine influenza is caused by orthomyxoviruses that are endemic to pigs. Swine flu infects humans every year, especially those who come into close contact with pigs. However, cases of person to person transmission (through coughing, sneezing, touching of contaminated items) have been documented. The swine flu in humans is most contagious during the first 5 days of the illness (in children, up to 10 days).

What are the symptoms?
Fever, vomitting, stiffness, disorientation, loss of consciousness, may be fatal (very similar to the normal influenza).

What does the Quran say about swines?
“He has forbidden you only the dead animals, and blood, and the flesh of swine…” [al-Baqarah 2:173]

“Forbidden to you (for food) are: Al-Maitah (the dead animals — cattle — beast not slaughtered), blood, the flesh of swine[al-Maa’idah 5:3]

“Say (O Muhammad): ‘I find not in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be Maitah (a dead animal) or blood poured forth (by slaughtering or the like), or the flesh of swine (pork); for that surely, is impure…”[al-An’aam 6:145]

There have been questions raised as to WHY Allah (SWT) has forbidden the consumption of the meat of the swine. Is it because it is unhealthy? Or is it because it is dirty? Spiritually dirty or physically dirty? Is it because it has no neck and therefore cannot be slaughtered in the Islamic way? Is it because the pig's digestive system works quickly and thus does not get rid of toxins that it eats effectively?

The Quran says:

“It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decreed a matter that they should have any option in their decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger, he has indeed strayed into a plain error”
[al-Ahzaab 33:36]

“The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allah (His Words, the Qur’aan) and His Messenger, to judge between them, is that they say: ‘We hear and we obey.’ And such are the successful (who will live forever in Paradise)”

[al-Noor 24:51]

The Bible says:

Leviticus 11:7-8 "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcase shall ye not touch; they are unclean to you."

"Of their flesh shall you not eat, nor touch their dead carcass." (Deut., 14:8)

"I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people who eat swine's flesh and broth of abominable things is in their vessels." (Isa., 65:2,3,4)

The next time someone asks me why I don't eat pork, I will not bother giving them reasons as to WHY Allah(swt) forbade the consumption of pork because just look, there are so many reasons right now as to why we shouldn't be eating pork. Some are scientifically proven and some have yet to be proven. However, one reason is more than sufficient and that reason is that Allah(swt) forbade it, and I will not doubt nor question for I am a believer.

What's not to love?

I don't know what to do anymore. How is it that we can be surrounded by people, talking to someone and yet, still feel so lonely inside? It seems like everything I do ends up being wrong, even if I started with good intentions. I feel so small. So very small and insignificant. Have you heard of the saying, 'To the world, you are just one person but to one person, you are the world'? Who is this person..I wonder when will I meet this person? Is this person already in my life, hidden? I wrote my mom a card telling her that she loves more than she is loved, for noone's love compares to hers. Now I hope I did not say the wrong thing. I don't want her to feel unappreciated. If what I wrote to her was true, mothers must be the loneliest people in the world. Giving out love and receiving a minute amount in return. On the subject of love, what IS love? Is it love when you get butterflies in your tummy talking to a guy? Or is it love only when you don't get those butterflies anymore? Is it love if I help with my brother with his exams...and when he does better than me, I feel a slight twinge of sibling rivalry? Is it love when my mother tells me I am too fat and that I should lose weight or no one will like me? But Mother, I want someone who will love me regardless of my weight. Is it love when you wake up each morning and your thoughts are only about one person (rendering you non functional for all other activities of daily living)? Is pre-marital love prohibited??LOL @ pre-marital love. I am so witty and since there is noone to appreciate my wit I shall LOL on my own. I am being cynical there. Don't get me wrong, I am not begging for sympathy, just someone who can clue me in on this marvelously complicated topic. I imagine myself to be the lonely old woman with a bunch of cats, living in a huge mansion...except I don't like cats so maybe switch cats to books. yeah...me and my beautiful mansion. Sucks to you for not loving me...or you could be living in my mansion or coming over for tea. My messenger list is full of people I don't talk to. Friends from school, friends from uni...I've started deleting people. The other day I did an experiment. I put: 'I shaved my head bald!' on my messenger status and suddenly, so many people started IM-ing me asking if I had really done it. Firstly, I wear hijab, why do you care anyways? It's not like youre gona be seeing my bald head. Secondly, you dont even TALK to me but you care about my haircut? Thirdly, you all forgot my birthday. Lastly, go away I'm deleting you from messenger.
Can you tell I am an angsty teenager in this post?

Brother #2 has been accepted into university for a degree in aerospace engineering.
Brother #3 has been accepted into university for a degree in bioengineering.

I am a very happy sister #1 and only.

Thank you Allah (SWT).

F is being very blah today. I will annoy him later by being a persistent spellchecker.

I am trying to figure out my online endocrine assignment. If a lady had a pituitary tumor, why are the FSH and LH levels low while Prolactin levels are increased? Hmmm *thinks*

Yesterday's dreams into today's nightmares

I hate myself. I hate what's happening. I want to hate you.

But I can't.

I wonder how many it times it will take before I learn the following:

1) If it's too good to be true, it IS.

2) Walk out before being walked on.

3) Reject before being rejected.

4) Never fully trust anyone.

5) Don't make yourself vulnerable [see (4)].

6) Work on heart of stone.

7) Learning to let go [reminder to self: throw diary].

I PASSED MY EXAM ALHAMDULILLAH

HURRAY

THANK YOU ALLAH (SWT)

THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR DU'As

Matters of the Heart

I am scared.

Yesterday, while doing Asr prayer, I experienced acute sharp pain in the left chest. The pain started from where you would place the stethoscope to get a good listen of the apex beat and radiated to the area where you would listen for the atrial valve.
I don't really know how to describe it other than the way the heart pumps is not the typical way you would imagine. It sort of starts at the apex of the heart and the heart sort of wrings itself upwards as the muscles contract.
This was the direction in which felt the pain.

It was so painful that I cried out, and dropped onto my prayer mat. 3 seconds later and the pain was gone.

Today, I was taking a nap when suddenly I awoke with my heart thumping against my chest. It was thumping so hard, as if I had just finished a run, except that the pace was regular, not racing.

I have experienced this sort of pain before. I have always ignored them but,...

It's not heartburn and it's not the tightening of the chest experienced during an asthma attack. I would know both of these of course.

Could it be possible that I, a female of 21, be having myocardial infarctions?

Mini heart attacks ignored...and when the big one comes, it will be too late.

I am scared.

I am tired of this mess. Someone untangle these knots.

Don't ask me why I am still awake at 4am.

I can't transfer photos from my camera to my laptop

I lost my data cable, my camera charger and the port that my camera has to be placed in to be charged/have photos transferred.

I only have my camera and the mini tripod.

Can you tell I am incredibly pissed?

I am going to ask my brothers to look at home while I mess up my room again (I CLEANED IT 20 MINUTES AGO) to look for those darn things.

A camera with no charger is pointless.

Reactions to YOUR posts

Almas, I hope everything will be okay..Be patient girl (: I know it's hurting right now but, stay strong. Love ya.

Lisa, I hope you stop meeting muslims who lie about their achievements. Hehe, they give us all a bad name. I love the spiky hair do. Do it more often. You are right about teaching him to be proud of his achievements. Personally, I don't think there is anything to be ashamed of if you're a cab driver. As long as the job is halal, why not?

Asha, hope you finish your workload soon then we can all sit and watch a scary movie hehe.

Malekat, get posting girl! I miss reading your entries.

Kak Chik, you have to put up more pictures of your cooking. They look fantastic. Oooooh put up pictures of traditional malay food *drooools

Brother Saafir, your posts always make me think and reflect about my actions which is really really great. Sometimes, I'm too busy with life that I don't stop to think about what I have done. Then when I read your entries, I realise things about myself. Alhamdulillah.

F, you HAVE to take a photo dedicated to me. Where is ittttt? And I dont want a pink website. Make me a new one.

Beautiful Stranger

My younger brother passed his driving test on his first try! Alhamdulillah! (: The first in the family to get it right the first time around hehehe.

Anyways, after passing the test, you have to apply for the driving license and you had to take a photo. The photo costs S$9. Unfortunately, my brother did not have any cash on him. There was no ATM around and the payment had to be made by cash only.

I was pleasantly surprised when my brother told me that a stranger who had passed the test at the same time as my brother had paid for his photo. My brother asked for this stranger's account number so that he could transfer the money back but this stranger refused. He told my brother that he was too happy and he did not mind paying.

An Indian boy of 19 made my day even though I have absolutely no idea who he is.

People like this make the world beautiful.

Post Exam

Hi everyone! My exam was sooo difficult but InshaAllah, I will pass. I am very disappointed with myself as I actually planned to score all distinctions this year since it is my repeat year...but...that plan is down the drain now. The exam was worth 20% of my final grade so,...yeah wait and see.

I took a picture of my table, pre exam. I'll put it up soon. LOL, now I have just pushed everything to the floor. My table breathes again.

I used to do voice chats but F discouraged me from doing so. He also said I shouldn't put up pictures of myself on the internet. Yesss, voice is awrah too. So now all my online contacts are bugging me and pestering me to do voice chats. And Im like...I dont do that anymore. They ask WHY.
I just say it's haram and I'm trying to change and be a good muslim.

They keep bugging me and telling me about THEIR viewpoint. Look guys, I really dont care about what YOU think because obviously I've made my decision.

My decision is I'm not going to let you guys listen to my sweet sexy seductive voiceee so QUIT BUGGING ME.

Duh dudes, take a big fat hint and leave me alone.

Ooh, now a dude is asking me about being in LOVE...whether that's haram too. Seriously, he is just picking on me.

I hate this. Why can't people just accept what I want to do??

Which?

Dzuhr: 1217pm

Exam (start): 1pm, to be at exam venue by 12:45pm

Exam (end): 3pm

Asr: 326pm

If I pray before exam, I might end up being late for the exam and be barred from sitting it. If I wait to pray after exam, I might miss Dzuhr as I will be held back in a room, while waiting for the 2nd batch of students to begin their exam.

Also, practical exams never begin on time or end on time.

Which will you choose to do?

I am going to pray Dzuhr, and try very hard not to get stressed up about being late for exam. Then, I am going to walk as fast as my legs can take me. InshaAllah I will get there on time.

ps. cadaver pictures in my book are making me feel like I need to throw up brekkie. nerves...

Not a very good Monday

This is like what? the 4th post today?

My mind is a total mess right now. Histology mixed up with anatomy and chemistry with physiology.

Seriously, I need to break something. Or vomit myself out so I can be empty.

Ah, the days of childhood, with nary a care in the world.

I have loads more to cover, but frankly my heart is not in it anymore.

Often, the heart interferes with the mind. But what am I to do? Because the heart is the centre of life. The mind depends on the heart.

The heart says No, and the mind follows.

My chest feels tight. I need to go lie down and empty myself. My heart is too full.

Wudhu, From Islam QA

Praise be to Allaah.

Firstly we praise Allaah for having guided you and opened your heart. We ask Allaah to make us and you steadfast in obeying Him. We appreciate your efforts to learn about your religion and we advise you to strive to acquire knowledge so that your worship will be correct. Try to learn Arabic so that you will be able to read Qur’aan and understand it properly. We ask Allaah to bless you with beneficial knowledge.

With regard to how wudoo’ is to be done, there are two ways.

1 – Obligatory parts of wudoo’, which are as follows:

(i) Washing the face completely once, which includes rinsing the mouth and nose.

(ii) Washing the arms up to the elbows, once.

(iii) Wiping the entire head, including the ears.

(iv) Washing the feet up to ankles, once.

What is meant by once in all the above is that the entire part of the body mentioned must be washed thoroughly.

(v) This must be done in order, so one washes the face first, then the arms, then wipes the head, then washes the feet, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did wudoo’ in this order.

(vi) This must be done continuously, i.e., the parts of the body must be washed one after the other with no lengthy interruption between washing one part and the next.

These are the obligatory parts of wudoo’ which must be done in order for wudoo’ to be sound.

The evidence for these obligatory parts of wudoo’ is the aayah in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salaah (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. If you are in a state of Janaaba (i.e. after a sexual discharge), purify yourselves (bathe your whole body). But if you are ill or on a journey, or any of you comes after answering the call of nature, or you have been in contact with women (i.e. sexual intercourse), and you find no water, then perform Tayammum with clean earth and rub therewith your faces and hands. Allaah does not want to place you in difficulty, but He wants to purify you, and to complete His Favour to you that you may be thankful” [al-Maa’idah 5:6]

2 – Mustahabb parts of wudoo’. These were narrated in the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), the details of which are as follows:

(i) You must have the intention of purifying yourself and removing impurity. The intention should not be spoken out loud for its place is in the heart. This applies to all acts of worship.

(ii) You should say Bismillaah.

(iii) Then you should wash your hands three times

(iv) Then you should rinse your mouth three times, swirling the water around inside your mouth, and rinse your nose three times, blowing the water out and using the left hand to remove the water from your nose.

(v) You should wash you face three times, from the hairline to the jawbone and chin, and from ear to ear. A man should wash the hair of his beard because it is part of the face. If his beard is thin he has to wash it inside and out, and if it is thick and covers the skin, he should wash the surface of it only and run his wet fingers through it.

(vi) Then he should wash his arms up to the elbows three times. The arm extends from the fingertips, including the nails, to the lower part of the upper arm. It is essential to remove anything stuck to the hands before washing them, such as dough, mud, paint, etc, that could prevent the water from reaching the skin.

(vii) Then after that he should wipe his head and ears once with fresh water, not the water left over from washing his arms. The way in which the head is to be wiped is that you put your wet hands at the front of your head and bring them to the back of your head, then bring them back to the place where you started. Then put your index fingers in your ears and wipe the back of the ears with your thumbs. With regard to a woman’s hair, she should wipe it whether it is loose or braided from the front of her head to the roots of the hair at the nape of her neck, but she does not have to wipe the entire length of her hair.

(viii) Then you should wash your feet three times up to the ankles, namely the bones at the bottom of the leg.

The evidence for that is the hadeeth narrated by Humraan the freed slave of ‘Uthmaan, who said that ‘Uthmaan ibn ‘Affaan (may Allaah be pleased with him) called for water to do wudoo’. He washed his hands three times, then he rinsed his mouth and nose, then he washed his face three times, then he washed his right arm up to the elbow three times, then he washed his left arm likewise. Then he wiped his head, then he washed his right foot up to the ankle three times, then he washed his left foot likewise. Then he said, “I saw the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) doing wudoo’ as I have done it, then the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Whoever does wudoo’ as I have done it, then prays two rak’ahs in which he focuses completely on his prayer, his previous sins will be forgiven.’” (Narrated by Muslim, al-Tahaarah, 331)

The conditions of wudoo are: being Muslim, being of sound mind, having reached the age of discernment and having the intention of doing wudoo’. Wudoo’ is not valid on the part of a kaafir, an insane person, a small child who has not yet reached the age of discernment or one who does not have the intention of doing wudoo’ because his intention is to cool himself down, for example. The water must also be pure (taahir), for impure (naajis) water cannot be used for wudoo’. One must also remove anything that could prevent water from reaching the skin and nails, such as nail polish.

It is prescribed to say Bismillaah according to the majority of scholars, but they differ as to whether it is obligatory or Sunnah. If one remembers to say it, it may be said either at the beginning of wudoo’ or during it.

There is no difference between men and women in the way wudoo’ should be done.

It is mustahabb to say, when one has completed wudoo’: “Ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasooluhu (I bear witness that there is no god except Allaah alone with no partner or associate, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah),” because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There is no one among you who does wudoo’ and does it properly and does it well, then he says, ‘Ashhadu an laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wahdahu laa shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasooluhu,’ but the gates of Paradise will be opened to him and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes.” (Narrated by Muslim, al-Tahaarah, 345). A report narrated by al-Tirmidhi adds: “Allaahumma ij’alni min al-tawwaabeena wa’j’alni min al-mutatahhireen (O Allaah, make me one of those who repent and make me one of those who purify themselves).” (al-Tahaarah, 50; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Sunan Abi Dawood, no. 48)

See al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhi by al-Fawzaan, 1/36)

With regard to your saying “may Allaah have mercy on the Prophet “, what is prescribed in Islam is to send blessings and peace upon him, as Allaah commanded us to do when He said (interpretation of the meaning):

“Allaah sends His Salaah (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy) on the Prophet (Muhammad), and also His angels (ask Allaah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salaah on (ask Allaah to bless) him (Muhammad), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation, i.e. As-Salaamu ‘Alaykum)” [al-Ahzaab 33:56]

And Allaah knows best.

Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid

Look in the mirror

I am fed up with a friend of mine. She dishes out Islamic advice and criticises sisters for their unIslamic ways. No one is asking you for advice so stop giving them out.
Her holier-than-thou attitude has got me feeling really furious and sometimes I just want to shake her real hard and ask her what is wrong with her.

If I was brave, the next time she talks bad about a sister being unIslamic, I am going to tell her to go look in the mirror.

Unfortunately, I'm a chicken.

ps. If I give you my number/email address/yahoo ID/Skype ID/MSN ID, you better store it somewhere. I get incredibly pissed when I'm answered with "Who is this?"

Reflection

Imagine a glass of black tea. This is the heart; it is filled with sins, lies, hatred, jealousy.

Add water. Water is Deen.

Add more water. Water is Deen.

Imagine the glass. It is now full of a colorless liquid. This is the heart; it is pure.

He told me it is possible to be pure and good again, that it is never too late. He is my source of water for now and my drinking buddy if you like (:

Another lesson I learnt...whatever started out bad will always end up bad or worse. I can't commit a sin knowingly and expect it to have a happy ending.

Thanks F. You are a great friend.

Alhamdulillah...I found you when I was lost.

ps. Girls, I'm not confused anymore about my feelings. I'm good. (:

I am restless and my mind can't concentrate.

Who can guess why? No prizes though...

Ayah Pin

Real name: Ariffin Mohamed
Gender: Male
Nationality: Malaysian
Marital status: Married, 4 wives
Religion: Sky Kingdom, renounced Islam in 2001
Unnatural experiences: 1953, he became seriously ill and claimed that an angel visited him. 20 years later, the angel returned and Ayah Pin started his religion.

Ayah Pin claims that he has direct contact with the heavens, and also happens to be reincarations of Buddha, Shiva, Jesus and Muhammad. He is also thought to return as Imam Mahdi by his followers. His followers consider him the king of the sky, and the supreme object of devotion for all religions.

Ayah Pin's religion supposedly promotes inter-religious harmony.

He accepts the existence of angels and believes in Malaysian 'forest fairies' called Orang Bunian. A major focus in his religion is spitirual healing as well as interpretation of dreams

His compound has structures that are symbolic of the cult's ideology. A 2 story high cream colored teapot and a blue vase (seen in picture above) cost RM45 million and the teapot represent the purity of water and the outpouring of love from the heavens. Apparently, this symbol came about through the interpretations of his follower's dream. He believes that God uses a vessel to shower his blessings onto mankind.
First time visitors to the complex have to drink 'holy' water from the vase that is continuously filled by the teapot.

A large yellow umbrella offers shelter beneath God and is associated with the nine planets in Hinduism.

Sessions are conducted on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings. According to a witness, the sessions began with a special ritual whereby followers would usher Ayah Pin from the main building to a concrete boat in the compound in which he would lie. His followers would then start chanting for him until 4:00 am. After this ritual, a lengthy question-and-answer period will take place, with Ayah Pin seated on a dais facing an audience. Hymns would also be sung during the session.

The Sharia court accused him of contravening Section 25 of the Administration of Islamic Religious Affairs 1986, stating that his teachings and beliefs were false, deviant, corrupting and threatening to the public peace. He pleaded guilty to the charge of "belittling Islam" and was jailed for 11 months and fined RM 2,900. The Religious Affairs Office hoped that Ariffin's arrest would prevent the movement's growth, however Sky Kingdom continued to attract new followers from among university students and the Indigenous people.

On July 18, 2005, a group of masked vigilantes attacked the group's headquarters, smashing windows and torching buildings. Two days later, 58 followers were arrested, three of Ariffin's four wives were also arrested.

Ariffin escaped arrest and remains at large. Forty-five members face charges of failing to observe the government's fatwa i.e. for continuing to be members of a sect declared as deviant, which carries a fine up to RM 3,000 or two years in prison. One of those arrested faced an additional charge of "humiliating Islam" (for claiming not to be a Muslim). Malaysian constitution.

On August 1, 2005, officials of the Besut Land Office destroyed Sky Kingdom's various buildings, citing Section 129 of the National Land Code (which punishes unauthorized construction with land confiscation). The titular landowner is Ariffin's first wife, who apparently failed to appear in court for a hearing on the matter. On September 1, 2005, at a hearing, a trial date for 45 followers accused of violating the government fatwa was set for three days beginning December 18 this year.

As of 2007, after wide media coverage, the original Hulu Besut commune, now down to 24 members, had reportedly chosen a new leader—a former police chief inspector in his 30s. The group is suspicious of visitors, and routinely turns out the commune's lights whenever a car approaches at night, in order not to be found.

Uh-oh...trouble up ahead you guys. Sometimes our jokes go overboard so we've decided to drawn a line and not cross it.

I asked him, "What if you think I crossed the line but I didn't realise that I did?"
He said, " I say: Stop there"
I said, "Sounds harsh...I might cry"
He said, "Stop there honey"

He seriously cracks me up. But now he's changed it to Bunny because honey crosses the line (:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ewwww gross gross gross! I just killed another milipede/centipede/something pede in my room. It was crawling on the brickwall again. EWWWWWWWW now its landed on my study table. I've shifted most things to the floor. Now I feel a million -pedes crawling on me. URGH

BEYATCHHHHH

I know I said I won't update much but OMG, today has been such an unproductive day *disappointed in myself

So I shall talk to myself here, and ignore the posts that have yet to be edited and published.

A friend of mine likes to insult Islam and Muslims. Usually, I just ignore these comments even though they got more and more insulting. I am non confrontational. Everytime I tried to stand up to my friend, it just came out wrong and he would say that I'm sulking or saying things that don't make sense.

Finally, my NEW friend (ok, I have to think of a better way to call him...because he won't be so new anymore soon heh) taught me to just ask to be treated with respect.

You see, my friend is an atheist and he does not ask about Islam to learn. He insults Islam and I have tried many times to fight these battles with him. I always lose because I am emotional and when I am upset, I don't make sense.

So, NEW friend suggests RESPECT. The way I see it, if he can't respect me as a Muslim, then respect me as a female. Don't use cuss words on me and don't hurt my feelings.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*phew, firefox crashed. Alhamdulillah for blogger's autosave (:

So when I finally decided to stand up for my rights, the guy calls me a bitch and uses every single expletive I knew existed...as well as some I didnt know existed. So that was it. It was done. Not worth keeping a friend like him.

I asked NEW friend about whether he blogs and he said No. He asked me and I said yes. I asked him if he wanted to read, forgetting about previous post. He said Yes. I always check my blog before giving anyone my URL. I gasped and hurriedly told him I couldn't because I had written about him and people had commented. If he wanted to read it, I would have to delete the entry.

And, he said.....

No, don't show me! I want you to keep what you write.

Altogether now,...AWWWWWWWWWW

Ok, we are on a 1 hour study - 5 minute chat program. We just started at 9 and here I am blogging at 930. Shhh, dont tell him. He will cyber kick me.

ps. I need a huge bear hug. anyone?

Blessed

OOOOhhhh you guys, I am sooo happy right now.

I feel as if a huge burden has been lifted off my shoulders.

Okay, before anyone chews at my ass for being friends with a guy, let me just make it clear that we just chat online. That's it. No exchanging of photographs or anything like that.

He is seriously the BEST muslim I have ever known.

Wow I can chat with him the whole day and ask him sooo many questions that have always puzzled me regarding Islam. I can tell him anything, and he gives me advice. He doesn't shut me off, he doesn't ignore me, he doesn't scold me for my mistakes.

It's only been about 4 days since I've known him and he knows alot about me. I don't know much about him though because he thinks there's a need for a barrier and that we don't get too comfortable with each other. He only knows about mine because I need advice.

He treats me like a daughter, and NO, hes not an old man.

MashaAllah, I am lucky to chat with him. He treats me with kindness, respect and is very witty.

He breaks the arab stereotype y'all!

Are you Shafi'i or Hanafi?? Noooo, I'm MUSLIM

Is it obligatory to follow a particular madhhab?
Is it mandatory for a muslim to follow a specific madhab (maliki, hanafi, hanbali, etc)?
If it is so, what madhab is the best? Is it true that Abou Hanifa's madhab is the most followed in the muslim world?

Praise be to Allah.

It is not obligatory for a Muslim to follow any particular madhhab among these four. People vary in their level of understanding and ability to derive rulings from the evidence. There are some for whom it is permissible to follow (taqleed), and indeed it may be obligatory in their case. There are others who can only follow the shar’i evidence. In Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah this question was answered in a detailed manner, which is worth quoting here in full.

Question:

What is the ruling on following one of the four madhhabs in all cases and situations?

The Committee replied:

Praise be to Allah, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger and his family and companions.

Firstly: the four madhhabs are named after the four imams – Imam Abu Haneefah, Imam Maalik, Imam al-Shaafa’i and Imam Ahmad.

Secondly: These imams learned fiqh (jurisprudence) from the Qur’aan and Sunnah, and they are mujtahideen in this regard. The mujtahid either gets it right, in which case he will have two rewards, the reward for his ijtihaad and the reward for getting it right, or he will get it wrong, in which case he will be rewarded for his ijtihaad and will be forgiven for his mistake.

Thirdly: the one who is able to derive rulings from the Qur’aan and Sunnah should take from them like those who came before him; it is not right for him to follow blindly (taqleed) when he is believes that the truth lies elsewhere. Rather he should follow that which he believes is the truth. It is permissible for him to follow in matters in which he is unable to come to a conclusion based on the Qur’aan and Sunnah and he needs guidelines concerning a particular issue.

Fourthly: Whoever does not have the ability to derive rulings himself is permitted to follow one whom he feels comfortable following. If he is not comfortable following him then he should ask until he finds someone with whom he is comfortable.

Fifthly: From the above it is clear that we should not follow their opinions in all situations and at all times, because they may make mistakes, but we may follow their views that are sound and are based on the evidence.

Fataawa al-Lajnah, 5/28

It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah, no. 3323:

Whoever is qualified to derive rulings from the Qur’aan and Sunnah, and has strong knowledge in that regard, even if that is with the help of the legacy of fiqh that we have inherited from earlier scholars of Islam, has the right to do that, so he can act upon it himself and explain it in disputes and issue fatwas to those who consult him. Whoever is not qualified to do that has to ask trustworthy people who so that he may learn the rulings from their books and act upon that, without limiting his asking or his reading to one of the scholars of the four madhhabs. Rather people refer to the four imams because they are so well known and their books are well written and widely available.

Whoever says that it is obligatory for the learned people to follow the scholars blindly in all cases is making a mistake and being inflexible, and is thinking that these learned people are inadequate, and he is restricting something that is broad in scope.

Whoever says that we should limit following to the four madhhabs is also mistaken, because he is restricting something that is broad in scope with no evidence for doing so. With regard to the common (i.e., uneducated) man there is no difference between the four imams and others such as al-Layth ibn Sa’d, al-Awzaa’i and other fuqaha’.

Fataawa al-Lajnah, 5/41

It says in Fatwa no. 1591:

None of them called people to follow his madhhab, or was partisan in following it, or obliged anyone else to act in accordance with it or with a specific madhhab. Rather they used to call people to follow the Qur’aan and Sunnah, and they would comment on the texts of Islam, and explain its basic principles and discuss minor issues according to general guidelines, and issue fatwas concerning what people asked about, without obliging any of their students or anyone else to follow their views. Rather they criticized those who did that and said that their opinions should be cast aside if they went against a saheeh hadeeth. One of them said: “If the hadeeth is saheeh then that is my madhhab.” May Allaah have mercy on them all.

It is not obligatory for anyone to follow a particular madhhab, rather we should strive to learn the truth if possible, or to seek the help of Allaah in doing so, then to rely on the legacy that the earlier Muslim scholars left behind for those who came after them, thus making it easier for them to understand and apply the texts. Whoever cannot derive rulings from the texts etc for some reason that prevents him from doing so should ask trustworthy scholars for whatever rulings of sharee’ah he needs, because Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“So ask the people of the Reminder [Scriptures — the Tawraat (Torah), the Injeel (Gospel)] if you do not know”

[al-Anbiya’ 21:7]

So he has to strive to ask one whom he trusts among those who are well known for their knowledge, virtue, piety and righteousness.

Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 5/56

The madhhab of Abu Haneefah (may Allaah have mercy on him) is the most widespread madhhab among the Muslims, and perhaps one of the reasons for that is that the Ottoman caliphs followed this madhhab and they ruled the Muslim lands for more than six centuries. That does not mean that the madhhab of Abu Haneefah is the most sound madhhab or that every ijtihaad in it is correct, rather like other madhhabs it contains some things that are correct and some that are incorrect. What the believer must do is to follow the truth and what is correct, regardless of who says it.

And Allah knows best.

I don't know about you but I was always told that I had to stick to one imam, and follow his interpretations in all cases. I was told I was not allowed to pick and choose. Now, I know better. The next time someone asks which Muslim I am, I am going to say "None, I am just Muslim, and proud of it."

Exams!

I've got some entries saved as drafts and I'll publish them once I've had time to edit and look through them again. Probably after exams.

I've been really busy, not with studying though but catching up with old friends and new friends, Alhamdulillah. It's supposed to be a study break but the other unis have got a break too so it's a great time to hang out with friends you don't normally get to see.

Today I had a fantastic lunch thanks to Ad and Az (: And also a really sweet breakfast. Had an awesome time yesterday. I'm smiling thinking about the great company and the lame movie we all watched together though Ad fell asleep.

Also, I realised this country has a lot of dumb protocols. They make it so difficult to convert driver's licenses. Imagine having to take the theory test and practical test all over again just because they don't recognise the country that you received the license from. And, this is even after they make you translate your license into English. Grrr

So now I am struggling with revision. I'm going to skip tomorrow's revision lab and just read my lab book and check out my medical atlas. You guys make dua for me okay? Thanks in advance.

Love loads XOXO,
Nadia

Sperms don't make you better than me.

To those who are offended with the title of this post, I'm SORRY.

I grew up with 4 brothers. As a kid, I was a tomboy. Mom spent hundreds of dollars on fancy party dresses that I never wore. Each time we would want to go out as a family, I would put on my tshirt and jeans. Mom would stop me and tell me to change into one of my many dresses. I missed out on a lot of outings because I was left behind for not listening to mom.

I am 21. I have to ask my parents for permission when I want to cut my hair.

I went to an all girls' school and there was never a single day where I didn't have shorts on under my skirt. Feeling rebellious, I chopped my long hair off and came back from school with hair as short as my brothers'. Parents were none too happy.

I grew up feeling that women were not treated the same way as men. My brothers go out with friends and come back late, I come home a little late and my mobile would be ringing non stop. I wear eye liner, lipgloss and smell good...Parents ask "Who are you going out with?"
My brothers take ages to get ready, come out looking all handsome and smelling like they used a whole bottle of cologne. They exit the front door, no questions asked.

I come back home for holidays and I am expected to do the dishes, laundry, cook etc. I don't mean to sound like a spoilt brat but what's the maid for? I don't mind doing MY dishes and MY laundry and cooking MY own food but don't expect me to cook for my brothers. They are just as capable to do their own stuff.

It's not my fault that on some days, I am easily irritated. It's not my fault I was born with a uterus that bleeds monthly.

I put on a little weight and all the aunties and uncles start gossiping. As if THEIR weight never fluctuated...I wear makeup to a family gathering and suddenly they have all conjured up an imaginary australian white boyfriend.

Why do people have a different standard of nice for girls and boys?

And boys, they don't know what us ladies are worth. They don't treasure our fragile hearts. They forget we lack the testosterones that make THEM insensitive. Stop fooling around with girls, save yourself for the one you're meant to be with. I am sick of hearing about playboys. STI scares would do these playas some good.

I hate boys. I hate that I am treated differently because I don't have sperms. I can do what you do, given practice..except maybe pee standing up.

When it rains, it freaking pours.

Don't get me wrong. I love the rain. I like how it smells when it's raining. I like how it's cool when it rains. I like how when it's raining, and you're in bed, tucked under your blanket, the world seems perfect.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.
A handsome gentleman pulls out a chair for you to sit and you lower yourself, smiling at his kind gesture. At the very last minute, he pulls the chair away and you fall onto the ground. He breaks out into laughter and you crumble into tears.

Why do you do what you do? Tell me, dear friend because I cannot understand how someone can cause such pain to another. Help me understand and maybe I will forgive.

Forgive but I don't think I can ever forget.

My heart is aching.

For the woman who has everything...

What do you get her?

Mom is turning the big 5-0 soon and I have no idea what to give her. She says to save the money and not buy her anything expensive. Then I jokingly say "alright, I'll save and not buy anything". She laughs, because she knows that it's always me who remembers and goes out shopping, wraps the presents and bugs my brothers to write on the card. I would say that 3 out of my 4 brothers couldn't care less what I got for my mom...as long as their name's on the card and I did all the work. Lol, boys...they don't know anything about the Joy of Giving. Haha, I kid.

I will actually be home for her birthday. I have to make it good.

Preiviously she has received clothes, handbags, perfumes, jewelry, make up, hijabs, shoes, watches.

Now I've run out of ideas.

Although I do know what the perfect gift would be: A ticket to retirement.

On days like this...

I think about the past and realised that I screwed up way too many times and only with Allah's help did I manage to get to where I am.

I have notes infront of me but I am not reading them. Instead I am crying thinking about what I have lost...knowledge, security, confidence, love.

I know where this path will lead me but I wonder if I am strong enough to persevere.

I feel like the world is against me.

I wonder why you don't understand me.

I keep thinking about whyyyy I fall for the same trick again and again.

I feel stupid, holding onto the past, not willing to let go even though it's so painful. Maybe I am afraid of the future.

I hate introducing myself. It's always fake and embarrassing. I keep mine as short as possible, sometimes I go even as far as introducing myself in dot points. I mean, seriously...I don't care what school you came from or what your favourite color is. I just need to know your name and frankly, after everyone's had their turn I'll only remember them as 'the girl with the pink top', 'the girl who speaks funny', 'the one with big boobs','the girl with the hijab that I want'....

No, don't judge me. I bet you remember people that way too.

Hi, my name is Nadia. I am 21 years old. I live in the present because the past is painful and the future is daunting.

Wardrobe Malfunction #1

I need a wardrobe makeover. I mean, I don't have to throw away anything...I just need to get something to put on over my clothes.

I hope my abaya arrives.

I've always been a hijabi...okay I exaggerate. I've been one for like 7 years now. I've got long skirts, loose fitting pants and tops that cover my bum. But I am also guilty of wearing short tshirts when I'm wearing skirts.

The skirt is loose but the problem is the tshirt. It shows off the waist.

I gained some weight and I can't fit into those tshirts anymore. They're too tight to be comfortable. Hehe...I am thinking positively about weight gain (:

Okay so my rant today is about why abayas are so expensive. I'm not talking fancy swarovski crystals studded abayas but just some plain ones with a little embroidery...They're way too expensive online and there aren't any places selling cheap abayas where I am staying.

An abaya is a necessity in a hijabi's wardrobe. Why they gotta be so pricey HUH?!

Wardrobe Malfunction #1
Last week, 4 times in the same day, the wind blew my hijab up, covering my face and obscuring my vision. A man chuckled to himself when I finally got my hijab off my face. Highly embarrassing. Alhamdulillah I was not wearing a low cut top.
Question: How many pins does it take to secure your hijab to your top such that it doesn't behave crazily when the wind blows?

Crash & Burn

I did not sleep til after Fajr. I woke up way past lunch.

Work Done = Zero

In a time like this, I understand the meaning of true love.

True love is not about being perfect, it is about loving regardless of the imperfections.

To those who have stood by me, you give me hope and a reason to keep on fighting.

To the ones who left, I understand why you did and I do not blame you for this. However, my heart longs for acceptance and forgiveness.

Despite the fact that tomorrow might be an awful day, my mind is suddenly at ease with the situation.

"(Remember) when you sought help of your Lord and He answered you " Quran 8:9
"And He protects (all), while against Whom there is no protector " Quran 23:88
"..when there will be neither a protector nor an intercessor for them besides Him" Quran 6:51

I reflect on my previous How To Control Emotions and I realised that in that moment of panic, anger and denial I forgot one very important thing that M fortunately reminded me about.

Who is stronger, the blackmailer or Allah (SWT)?

Thanks asha, Lisa, M, Y and P for understanding.

J, its goodbye.

How To Control Your Emotions

In a Hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) said: "Verily, I have been prohibited from emitting two foolish and wicked sounds, one that is emitted when something favourable happens and the other that is expressed when calamity strikes."

The Prophet (PBUH) also said: "Love the one who is beloved to you in due moderation, fo perhaps the day will come when you will abhor him. And hate the one whom you detest in due moderation, for perhaps the day will arrive when you will come to love him."

In another hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) said: "And I ask You (Oh, Allah SWT) to make me just, both while being in a state of anger and while being in a state of joy."

In a state of anger, you tend to be irrational, saying things that you would very much regret later on. You vent your anger on people who were not even involved in the cause of your problem. You slam the door on your way into the house, you ignore your mother's greetings, you stomp up the stairs, you kick your cat out of your bedroom and you throw your things against the wall.

Just because you were hurt, it does not make it right for you to hurt others or take it out on your mom, assuming she would understand. Upsetting your mom would not solve your problem and would not make you any happier. It would cause the relationship between you and your mom to become strained.

Now imagine if you were able to control your emotions. You would have come home, and saw your mother. She would have seen that you were upset and gently ask you what the matter was. You would have discussed the situation with her and she would have given you fantastic motherly advice. Afterward, she would feed you a nice hot lunch and send you up to bed to cuddle with your cat. You would feel so much better and it won't take Einstein to come up with an equation to prove that.

Even in happiness, you must control your emotions. Excessive displays of joy might cause others to get envious of your success, perhaps they might create fitnah just to put a downer on your mood. You must not forget to thank Allah (SWT) for your success. Your unbridled happiness may lead you to get complacent, perhaps not studying as hard for the next examination as you were partying too hard because the previous examination was as easy as ABC.

Aim for a happy medium. Always remember Allah (SWT) in happiness and in sadness. InshaAllah, you will be able to control your emotions.

Drained by Diabetes

A diabetes sit-down-and-just-listen lab that lasted for 2 hours has got me completely drained. I am so tired. I don't know what's up with my body. The last time I felt this way, it didn't end very well.

I'm not just physically drained but mentally too. I just want to lie down on my bed and shut my eyes and cover my ears so no thoughts can enter my mind.

I don't feel like there's a reason to get out of bed anymore.

Allah (swt), guide me in the right direction and give me courage to continue on the path that has been chosen for me.

A muslim, that's what I really want to be. Not a student, not a doctor, not a wife, not a mother.

Just muslim.

How To Deal With The $@!!#?#^&#~* Ingrate

Do not expect gratitude from others.

Be at peace with the good that you have done and expect no reward nor thanks from the person you have helped. Instead, be assured that Allah Almighty will reward you, for He has unlimited treasures.

We feed you seeking Allah's (swt) countenance only. We wish for no reward, nor thanks from you.
-Quran 76:9

And when harm touches man, he invokes Us, lying down on his side, or sitting or standing. But when We have removed his harm from him, he passes on his way as if he had never invoked Us for a harm that touched him!
-Quran 10:12

If man can be ungrateful towards Allah swt, then we should not expect even a single word of thanks for any good that we have done for our fellow mankind.

And, if Allah Almighty can forgive, who are we to hold a grudge?

Remember, sisters, that the hand that gives is better than the hand that receives.
